Healthy Heart

The relationship between diet and heart disease is a proven fact. However, researchers continue to change their dietary advice with more recent discoveries that enlighten us on heart healthy diet. At one point of time, dietitians advised people that a heart healthy diet should avoid eggs or fish as they contain high level of cholesterol. Now they have reverted to the statements and tell you that certain mono unsaturated fats like the omega 3 fatty acids found in fish could serve as a heart healthy diet.

American Heart Association (AHA) has once again revised its heart healthy diet guidelines. While the former guidelines focused a healthy heart diet the revised one stress on a healthy lifestyle. AHA advices on maintaining your BMI with a healthy heart diet, physical activities, and other lifestyle factors.

An efficient heart healthy diet should include the following: a variety of fruits and vegetables, especially dark green, orange, or yellow ones daily; a variety of grain products, particularly whole grains; fat-free dairy products, fish, beans, skin-removed poultry, and lean meats; and the most important thing is to maintain balance between the calorie intake and energy used everyday. Along with the heart healthy diet, maintaining a required level of physical activity either in the form of exercise or daily chores is suggested in order to keep yourself away from deadly heart diseases.

There are a few things that should be avoided while you are on a heart healthy diet. The first of the things you should avoid is the high-fat content food, for example, full-fat dairy products, high-fat meats, fried foods, hydrogenated vegetable oils, tropical oils and egg yolks. It is wise to limit cholesterol intake to less than 300 mg a day. Avoid edible items that are high in calorie content and low in nutrition, such as, sugar or soft drinks. Avoid excess use of salt because it induces hypertension which may escalate heart-related problems. Avoiding alcoholic drinks will do more than good in the recuperating process during heart ailments.

Although heart healthy diet looks similar to a balanced diet that includes carbohydrates fiber vitamins and minerals, the diet reduces the highly dangerous fat, sugar, and salt. While the above mentioned heart healthy diet could do more than good for an average person, anyone with severe hear problems should consult their physician before taking any heart healthy diet.
